Angelo Rao, P.E.
April 14, 2023
12 PM – 1 PM ET
The presentation offers a look at how Disruptive Innovation and the “S” curve play a role in advancing Complete Streets and Vision Zero (zero fatal and serious injury crashes). Examples from Angelo’s current work and his six-year tenure at the City of Lakeland will be explored, demonstrating real progress in moving the fatal and serious injury crashes safety needle in the right direction. More importantly – Having some fun!!
With his parents never having drivers’ licenses and living to a combined age of 182 years; as well as growing up in downtown Toronto, Canada, Angelo Rao truly learned to walk the talk.
With over 43 years of public and private sector service, Angelo understands the special needs of the public. He has personally attended and/or chaired over 600 public meetings with a view of reaching a consensus within these communities for implementing lasting solutions for ALL transportation users! Angelo is a 1980 graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in civil engineering.
As a student of Disruptive Innovation, Angelo knows that Vision Zero is feasible and doable. He is committed to being a partner in achieving Vision Zero in Florida (zero fatal and serious injury crashes) by 2030; progress is being made. For example, during Angelo’s tenure as the Traffic and Parking Operations Manager at the City of Lakeland (2015–2021), there was an almost 50% reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes from 2015–2020. This result in saving lives is clearly a function of the dedicated City staff who are not afraid to implement Disruptive Innovative change for the greater good. Angelo loves to cook (no one has died yet), bike, kayak, and alleges to play the drums!
