We are proud to announce that CUTR has received funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 to establish the Tampa Bay Community Safety Academy (TBCSA). Led by CUTR faculty members Jason Jackman and Tia Boyd, TBCSA aims to engage with road users within FDOT District 7 to increase awareness of and participation in national, statewide, and district-specific safety initiatives. Through outreach and education, TBCSA empowers participants to become safety ambassadors and contribute to FDOT’s Target Zero goal. According to the FDOT website, Target Zero is a “statewide initiative to reduce the number of transportation-related serious injuries and deaths across Florida to ZERO.”
TBCSA builds on CUTR’s previous work with the Tampa Bay Citizens Academy on Transportation (TB-CAT) and FDOT’s Target Zero workshops. Originating from Jackman and Boyd’s collaboration on TB-CAT, the academy focuses on effective community engagement strategies, including outreach and safety presentations. “We’re excited to build on our best practices and take the Tampa Bay Community Safety Academy to the next level!” said Jackman.
