On July 1, 2026, the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) hosted the “Roll Safe, Bulls!” Campus Walking, Biking, and E-Scooter Safety Session as part of the USF Summer Week-of-Welcome (WOW) program.
The event was organized through the Peer-to-Peer University Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Education and Outreach Program, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, and was organized and facilitated by Dr. Can Cui of CUTR.
The interactive session provided new USF students with practical guidance on traveling safely around campus. Topics included pedestrian safety, bicycle and e-scooter riding basics, helmet use, bicycle safety equipment, and proper parking and locking practices.
CUTR Safety Ambassadors Ruth Sastry Vaylasomayajula, Marvin Osei-Kuffour, and Jeremy Fullwood Jr. led educational presentations and demonstrations. Dr. Cui facilitated the interactive quiz and discussion, giving participants an opportunity to test their knowledge, ask questions, and learn about common campus transportation risks.
Participants also received transportation safety materials and small giveaways. Through student-led presentations, demonstrations, and interactive activities, the session helped students feel more confident when walking, biking, or riding e-scooters at USF.
The activity supports the Peer-to-Peer Program’s mission to educate university students about pedestrian and bicyclist safety and to promote a safer, more transportation-conscious campus community.
