Biography

Qing Lu, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida. He focuses his research on sustainable transportation infrastructure facility design and management, primarily in road structures. His recent work addresses emerging challenges in pavement in the shifting environments towards more sustainable, resilient, and environment-friendly materials, design, and management, with the following four specific areas: (1) Durable pavement materials with low environmental impact; (2) Pavement structural design towards sustainability; (3) Environmental impact assessment of pavement materials and structures; (4) Strategies of road maintenance and rehabilitation towards low cost and environmental impact and in the context of interdependent infrastructure systems. Dr. Lu holds two master’s degrees, in civil engineering and statistics, as well as a doctoral degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He previously worked as a project scientist at the University of California’s Pavement Research Center before joining the faculty at USF. Additionally, Dr. Lu is a licensed professional civil engineer in the state of California and a member of various professional organizations.
