§334.065, Florida Statutes – Center for Urban Transportation Research

  1. There is established at the University of South Florida the Florida Center for Urban Transportation Research
  2. The center shall be a continuing resource for the Legislature, the Department of Transportation, local governments, the nation’s metropolitan regions, and the private sector in the area of urban transportation research
  3. An advisory board shall be created to periodically and objectively review and advise the center concerning its research program

Sonny Holtzman

Sylvan (Sonny) Holtzman brings more than  60 years of experience as a Florida lawyer and public servant.  Mr. Holtzman was the founding Chairman of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority and served as Chairman for six consecutive terms.  He also served as Chairman of TeamFl, and currently is a member of its Board of Directors. He presently serves on the CUTR Advisory Board. In 2012 he was appointed to the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Program Advisory Committee.  The committee advises the Secretary of Transportation on all matters relating to the study, development and implementation of intelligent transportation systems. He also served as Chairman of the Florida Pari-mutuel Commission and served as Chairman of the Governance Committee on the late Governor Lawton Chile’s transition team, as well as Co-Chairman of the Governor’s second term inaugural committee. Mr. Holtzman served on the Board of Directors of a Miami community bank for over 25 years, and as Honorary Counsel for the Republic of Panama in Miami for 10 years. He obtained a degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.  Subsequently, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal while serving in the United States Army and then earned his law degree at the University of Miami, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Miami Law Review.
