The Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF) is pleased to announce that Sisinnio Concas, PhD, has been elected to the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) Florida Board of Directors.
Dr. Concas serves as Associate Research Professor at USF and is the Program Director of the Autonomous-Connected Mobility Evaluation (ACME) program at CUTR. A senior economist by training, he brings extensive expertise in urban and regional economic impact analysis, transportation policy evaluation, and the study of how transportation infrastructure investments influence economic development and residential location patterns.
Throughout his career, Dr. Concas has contributed to nationally recognized research that helps agencies and policymakers understand the economic, societal, and operational effects of emerging mobility technologies. His leadership in the ACME program positions him at the forefront of evaluating connected and automated vehicle technologies, advanced mobility systems, and their implications for transportation networks.
ITS Florida is a leading statewide advocate for deploying technologies that enhance the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the surface transportation system. As described by the organization:
“Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) encompass a broad range of wireless and wire line communications, information processing, advanced computing, and electronics technologies. When integrated into the nation’s roadways, vehicles, and public transit systems, these technologies can help reduce congestion, enhance mobility options, and help save lives. Our members include private corporations, public agencies, and academic institutions involved in the research, development and deployment of ITS technologies… The overall goal is to provide the Florida government, academic agencies, and the private sector with improved access to advanced transportation technology to meet the demands placed on highways, public transportation, and interfaces with air, rail, and sea-borne modes.”
Dr. Concas’s election to the Board underscores CUTR’s long-standing commitment to advancing innovative transportation solutions across Florida and the nation. His expertise will contribute to shaping ITS Florida’s strategic direction as the organization continues to support the deployment of intelligent mobility technologies that improve safety, enhance mobility, and advance the state’s transportation infrastructure.
CUTR and USF congratulate Dr. Concas on this significant professional achievement and look forward to his continued leadership in the intelligent transportation community.
