Move, Connect, Thrive: The Power of Active Transportation

Abstract
Having worked on numerous local and statewide projects in Florida, Jason Jackman collected valuable insights into the growth of active transportation in our communities. This presentation will investigate progress in school transportation, community events, and ongoing enhancements in pedestrian and bicycle safety infrastructure. We’ll explore how these efforts have encouraged pedestrian and bicycle travel options, and we’ll also analyze the pivotal role played by policies in transforming our safety culture.
Presenter
Jason Jackman, MPA, is a senior research associate with the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) where he leads a team on various safety projects. For over 20 years, he has managed community and transportation safety programs focused on advocacy, education, health, and outreach. Mr. Jackman’s expertise is in school transportation, local, and statewide bicycle and pedestrian safety, Vision Zero/Safe System Approach, as well as other transportation-related initiatives.
Mr. Jackman holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of South Florida. He’s a League Cycling Instructor with the League of American Bicyclists, Executive Board Member with Bike Florida, and an Executive Member with the Transportation Research Board’s Bicycle Research Subcommittee. He’s the statewide trainer/educator for Florida’s Safe Routes to School program. While not working on projects, Jason enjoys time with his wife, three kids, dog, and cat. He’s a coach for his daughters’ softball teams, a business coach for his wife’s thriving salon, and a problem solver for his six-year-old son’s never-ending quagmires.
