Florida’s 2022 Transportation Hall of Fame Inductee
Ron Howse
Mr. Ron Howse is president and founder of Real Deal Development Group, a real estate investment, civil engineering, and land planning business where he has been in practice for more than 25 years. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Mr. Howse is a Florida licensed Professional Engineer and Professional Surveyor and Mapper. He was elected to the St. Cloud City Council at the age of 28, one of the youngest ever elected to that post, and is a former assistant public works director for the City of Altamonte Springs.
Mr. Howse was appointed to the Florida Transportation Commission in 2009 and has continuously served multiple terms serving as both Chairman and Vice Chairman. In addition to serving on the Florida Transportation Commission, Mr. Howse currently serves as the Treasurer of the St. Johns River Water Management District and has served on the governing board since 2015. Mr. Howse also is the Chairman of the East Florida State College Board of Trustees and has served on the board since 2015.
Mr. Howse previously served on the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council and on the boards of directors for the Kissimmee/Osceola County and St. Cloud Chambers of Commerce. He serves his community through his active support and engagement with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, Pop Warner Football, the Rotary Club, and the Masonic Lodge.
The CUTR Transportation Achievement Awards event was established in 2003 as CUTR’s signature annual event, including a reception, presentation of numerous transportation awards to students and professionals, and dinner. CUTR actively seeks sponsors for this event and appreciates the support of many organizations, firms, and individuals over the years.
The Florida Transportation Hall of FameTM award was designed in 2003 for the CUTR Advisory Board to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Florida transportation. Recipients are nominated by the CUTR Advisory Board in the spring and are honored at the Awards event in the fall that recognizes their significant transportation leadership, insight, and innovation throughout their distinguished careers.
Also recognized at the Awards event are the annual winners of the Georgia Brosch Memorial Transportation Scholarship and CUTR Transportation Scholarship. A portion of the proceeds from the Achievement Awards event goes to support the Scholarship Fund. The New Voice in Transportation award is presented to an individual recognized as an emerging leader in transportation. The National Institute for Congestion Reduction (NICR) will present its Student of the Year award and ELEMENT Engineering awards a deserving student with a scholarship. Finally, a student poster competition is also held and winners are recognized at the awards event.

Georgia Brosch Memorial Transportation Scholarship
Educating students for careers in transportation is vital to enhancing the quality of life for our state and the nation. To assist in that education, and to help attract the best and brightest to careers in transportation, CUTR established the Georgia Brosch Memorial Transportation Scholarship, named in memory of the infant daughter of former CUTR Director Gary Brosch and his wife Barbara.
New Voice in Transportation Award
CUTR is partnering with the Women’s Transportation Society (WTS), Central Florida Chapter of Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) and Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) to recognize an individual at an earlier stage in their career who is demonstrating leadership in the transportation profession with significant potential for making an impact on transportation in Florida. We hope that this award will be a suitable companion to the Hall of Fame Award, and that it will help us to celebrate the diversity within our profession and that the recipient will inspire others to achieve excellence.
CUTR Transportation Scholarship Award
NICR Student of the Year Award
The NICR Student of the Year designation is awarded to a student who has achieved significant achievements with NICR. This award is to recognize the student’s research and work within the grant. NICR will begin this award in 2021 and more information will be available soon.
Previous Awards: NCTR Student of the Year
Awarded to an outstanding student who will become a future public transportation professional with a goal to build strong public transportation systems via workforce development programs to prepare for tomorrow’s multimodal challenges and opportunities. The award concluded in 2020 with the end of the NCTR program.
