To achieve business success, decision-makers always want proper answers to three valuable questions: What happened? What will happen? What best can happen? With decades of technology development, many data-driven methods are innovated to address the above questions. These methods of converting data into better business decisions are often referred to as analytics or data Science in the industry. Differing from academia, the industry pays more attention to engineering practice and business success and develops a set of practical tools and strategies to better leverage data science capabilities. This talk is to give an overview of the engineering practice of data science in the transportation and logistics industries. In a big-picture, the contents will cover the analytics ecosystem, techniques in modeling and algorithm, required skills and tools, end-to-end implementations, business insights and priorities, and several real-world use-cases.
