The Safe Routes to School Tampa Bay “Walking School Bus and Bicycle Train” program promotes safe access to elementary and middle schools and increase use of bicycling and walking by encouraging Walking School Buses and Bicycle Trains (also known as Bike Pools), at select schools in Hillsborough County. A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults, and a bicycle train is a group of children riding their bicycles with one or more adults. The program provides pedestrian and bicycle safety training for volunteers, “walk and bike to school day” event planning, in-school student pedestrian safety presentations for grades K-8, and student/parent travel tally/survey collection and analysis.
