The goal of this research project is to improve livability in Florida communities by providing a methodology to evaluate how to provide better intermodal connections between public transportation and trails. Such connections could extend the transit service area outward and enable pedestrians and bicyclists to access areas to which they might not otherwise travel due to traffic congestion, physical barriers, or safety concerns. These connections will contribute to a community’s goal to help complete the integration of a multimodal system where travelers can use a combination of trails, greenways and public transportation in a single trip to reach their destinations. The aim of this literature review is to determine what existing methodologies are available that could possibly be used or altered for purposes of planning intermodal connections between public transit and public trails.
