Mr. Gawade will receive a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Fall 2014. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the SP College of Engineering, University of Mumbai, Mumbai, India. His dissertation involves understanding the influence of urban form and street design on multimodal public transportation efficiency. He worked on several projects at CUTR which encompassed the diverse areas of intelligent transportation systems, demand modeling, air transport operations, and freight transportation.
He serves as President of the USF Student Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and Vice President for the USF Graduate Professional Student Council; serves on the USF Student Green Energy Fund Council and is a student member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
He won “Best Paper Award” in the 5th ICRAT 2012, Berkeley, California and the National Academies, Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Graduate Research Award 2013-2014 Federal Aviation Administration, “Airport Users’ Perception towards “Remote and Virtual Towers at Small Airports,” Washington, DC. After graduation, Mr. Gawade plans to work in the transportation field guiding future engineering aspirants as an instructor, researcher, and mentor. Mr. Gawade’s advisor is Dr. Yu Zhang.
The $2,000 scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, professional activities, and career goals.
