The Florida DOT has received the 2013 GHSA Peter K. O’Rourke Special Achievement Award for their Bicycle/Pedestrian Focused Initiative, the first statewide, data-driven program that targeted enforcement and educational resources to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety in 10 priority counties. The CUTR ITS group, led by Dr. Pei Sung Lin, acted as a partner to FDOT on this initiative and is proud to continue working with FDOT on this area of safety. For more information on the GHSA awards, visit the Occupational Health & Safety site, and for more information on the Peter K. O’Rourke award, visit the GHSA site. At right, you’ll see a photo of Trenda McPherson, who is the Project Manager at FDOT in charge of the program.
