Top Transportation Officials Featured at African-American Mobility Symposium

On April 5-7 in Tampa, CUTR, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration convened the second African American Mobility Symposium. The event served as a forum to present the mobility issues and concerns of African Americans.

This year's symposium attracted a number of top transportation officials from both national and state agencies, including Administrator Gordon Linton of the Federal Transit Administration, Administrator Rodney Slater of the Federal Highway Administration, Commissioner Arthur Kennedy of the Florida Transportation Commission, and Florida Senator James T. Hargrett, as well as a number of transportation professionals and researchers from across the country.

The two-day event, titled "Exploring New Frontiers," follows the first symposium held in March 1994. A proceedings from the conference will be produced in September 1995, and proceedings from the first conference are currently available. A third conference is being planned for 1996.
