College of Engineering Overview
  • Includes departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial & Management Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
  • 3,100+ students, 90 faculty
  • Highly successful research program, nearly $10 million annually
  • 8 research centers

USF's College of Engineering is an integral part of the University and comprises six separate departments: Chemical Engineering; Civil & Environmental Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial & Management Systems Engineering; and Mechanical Engineering. Enrollment includes approximately 2,500 undergraduate students, 475 Master's students, and 175 Ph.D. students.

The College's highly successful research program includes eight research centers, with external research contract/grant funding in excess of $10 million annually. Each center is staffed by a team of multidisciplinary technical experts, and graduate students are given the opportunity to enhance their education and experience by assisting on center projects. Centers include the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), the Center for Communications and Signal Processing (CCASP), the Center for Modeling Hydrologic and Aquatic Systems (CMHAS), the Center for Computer Integrated Engineering and Manufacturing (COCIEM), the Southern Technology Applications Center (STAC), the Clean Energy and Vehicle Research Center (CEVRC), and the Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (CBER).

Laboratory facilities for each of the six departments include compound semiconductor materials, processing facilities, thin film and hybrid circuits facilities, industrial robots, gas chromatographs, materials testing equipment, defect engineering testing equipment, gas chromatographs/mass spectrometers, a high pressure liquid chromatograph, total organic carbon analyzers, a scanning electron microscope, etc. In addition, extensive computer facilities are available, including SUN files and computer servers, Ardent multiprocessor computer servers, and Ardent graphics machines.

The College also operates the Florida Engineering Education Delivery System (FEEDS), a statewide system that delivers graduate level engineering courses to approximately 80 cooperating university centers and industrial sites via live television and videotape.
